Maya animations exporting problem

Saturday, May 3rd, 2008

Update:

I tried to see if we could download the Doom 3 engine to export .md5 to there then to JME, but it seems that it’s only guaranteed to work if you have Maya versions 4, 5, or 6, and we have version 9.0.

Also, a ColladaMaya plugin is needed to export to .dae files compatible with JME…but yet again there are only downloads that work with Maya versions up to 8.5.

So basically, our Maya is too NEW. Problem still not solved. :(

How to export animations from Maya…?

Sunday, April 27th, 2008

Stephanie and I were trying to find ways to export Maya animations into JME (because she made a really awesome waterwheel that MUST be in the game), but encountered many difficulties. For exporting Blender animations to .md5 format, we simply had to download the Doom 3 .md5 exporter…but for Maya it seems that that only works if you are using the Doom 3 game engine, which we are not.

Our second idea was to export animations from Maya into a format that we could then import into Blender, exporting to the game from there. There were a few compatible file formats, but none that would import the model AND its animation.

We also tried downloading something called Muskoka to help us export Maya animations into .md2 files, but never actually got it working.

This is probably a top priority thing, since the whole reason we got Maya in the first place was to make animating easier. You’d think that because it is so widely used, there would be many ways of exporting animations into many different engines, but either that’s not the case or we are missing something. Anyone want to help us to figure out the best way to do this?

Maya exporting to .obj

Sunday, April 20th, 2008

To all artists working with Maya:

I think we can export models in Maya to .obj files by going to the plug-in manager and loading the Maya OBJ Plug-In.

These files should be just like the .obj files we export from Blender, and should be compatible with the game.  I don’t have Maya to play around with at the moment, so does someone want to try this to see if it will work?

Screenshots

There are two new ones! Also there should be icons for the inventory in the game, so maybe there will be new videos?? Which, by the way, Heather and Kaitlyn said didn’t work on their computers, so I don’t know what’s going on with that.

Biographies and Pictures

Monday, April 14th, 2008

A few biographies are already up on the ABOUT US pages. Check them out!

All artists need to get pictures of their rendered models. We also need to build scenes and take screenshots of the game.

Icons and Logo

Monday, April 14th, 2008

I’m really glad the logo worked out! If you guys want me to change any part of it let me know…

Apparently it was too small to fit as an icon, so I made a red panda favicon. Yay!
