One dark and stormy night, RedPanda decided to make a game. The simple premise is that the game makes you both a player and a designer.
The game's interface allows you to create online virtual worlds complete with a population of non-player characters that can interact with other players in fully customizable ways. This means that the creation of quests is entirely in your hands.
You also control the look and feel of the virtual world, from scenes as small as a pile of rocks to areas as large as a city. You get to choose what objects go where, how big those objects are, and how they are oriented. Nothing in the game is permanently locked down.
Whether you're using the game for educational purposes or just for fun, you'll find your level of freedom to be a refreshing change from games that dictate available story lines to you. You can think of the game as analogous to wikipedia: it is driven by the creative energies of an entire community working in collaboration.
